2025 GROUND GLASS AWARD RECIPIENT
Each year Prismatic Ground gives out only one award, meant to recognize an exceptional body of work.
The recipient of the fifth annual Ground Glass Award is Indian filmmaker Ashish Avikunthak (b. 1972, Jabalpur), whose irreverent approach to mythology, lore and religious philosophy holds a singular place in cinema—in the lineage of "Parallel" filmmakers like Mani Kaul and Kumar Shahani, and at times categorized as part of the "Cinema of Prayoga," but wholly its own esoteric, mystical and iconoclastically devotional practice.
Avikunthak appeared in person at Prismatic Ground on Saturday, May 3 at Anthology Film Archives to present a selection of his short films courtesy of Light Cone.
